Welcome to another live chat!
What a playoffs so far.
Cale Makar
6:06
CALE. MAKAR.
Gavin Lee

This should probably be the new Calvin.
Boy has he looked sharp so far.
If there is a pairing that represents the new NHL more than Samuel Girard-Cale Makar, I don't know who they are.

Do you think the Rangers sign Panarin in the offseason
Gavin Lee
6:07
I think they have about as good a chance as anyone, though I do wonder if they want to commit that much this offseason.
Their rebuild is going extremely well (from my point of view anyway) and adding a top name for $10MM+ right now doesn't perfectly fit that plan
6:08
Still, Panarin has been a target of them before and he's an incredible talent.
Hard to pass those up.
They won't be the only one interested, but they might be one of the few to get an actual meeting

The amount of upsets in the first round was crazy Gavin. Who makes the most changes of the 'top' teams that were outted in the first round...aka: Tampa, Nashville, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Washington
Gavin Lee
6:08
At this point the answer is firmly Pittsburgh, though with some time Jim Rutherford might calm down a bit.
6:09
He was not happy with how the Penguins bowed out and even before that knew there had to be big changes in the room.
He admitted that trading Carl Hagelin was meant as a shot across the bow of some of the guys who had become a little complacent
Now there are the Malkin trade rumors, but those have persisted for years.
I'll still be shocked if they actually move him.
6:10
In terms of the other teams, I don't think big changes are coming for Tampa.
They are going to stay the course, even though they were extremely disappointed.
There will be small changes in order to keep Point and others, but nothing massive I don't believe
6:11
Winnipeg is maybe a different story but I don't think it will be directly because they want to shake things up. It's just that their window with this group has changed because of the way Connor, Laine and Trouba will have to get paid.
The roster is just going to HAVE to look a little different.
For Nashville, David Poile has never been afraid of pulling the trigger on big moves.
6:12
He also isn't one to panic and force one.
If there is an opportunity, perhaps to move Subban or Turris or someone else, he'll take it. But he's not calling other GMs in a panic looking to shed everyone on the team.
Washington, quite simply is going to try and win until Ovechkin is too old to play.
6:13
I don't doubt that there will be extensions for Backstrom and Holtby, even if they regret them at some point down the road.
Great question.

6:13
Malkin rumors? For fun, who do you think would be the top suitors?
Gavin Lee
6:14
Honestly I'm not even sure. It would take so much to actually orchestrate a deal like that, not the least of which would be convincing Malkin to waive his clause and go somewhere else.
A team like Columbus might have the room if they let all their free agents go, but I doubt he'd want to go there.
6:15
The California teams are always contenders for this sort of thing, but none of them jump out as a great fit.
I just don't think it'll happen. Not this summer anyway

Good Evening Gavin!  Any initial ideas on what the NHL can or should do regarding the Women's lockout?  I agree there is some disparity but not sure that the revenue is there for them without outside help ...
Gavin Lee
6:17
Personally, I'm a pretty big advocate of women's hockey in general. I wish there was more interest in it, more support for the players and better resources for the NWHL. That said, I can COMPLETELY understand why the NHL doesn't want to get involved in a league that they didn't build from the ground up.
I believe that if this boycott ends up folding the NWHL, it actually may be a success and the NHL would create a WNHL if you will.
6:18
It would take the NHL supporting it for sure, but the idea of athletes being subsidized by another entity is not a new concept.
6:19
The idea of supporting a WNBA for instance, isn't necessarily to build a successful revenue-generating entity.
6:20
What it can do though, is turn on a huge number of young fans that may otherwise overlook your sport. That helps generate revenue for the men's league, which while sounding pessimistic is still the number one priority for the NHL/NBA whatever.
