Hey folks. Welcome to another live chat
Happy Thanksgiving to our American readers.
I'll let some stuff roll in before getting started

The Sabres have won 6 in a row - are they for real? Or is this another story like the Canucks where they get hot, and then fall back to earth?
Gavin Lee
6:15
The most impressive part of the Sabres run to me is that Jack Eichel, the best player on the team at creating shots for himself, is getting no luck on the scoreboard. Nothing has gone in for him this season, and that should be able to counter out any negative regression from a guy like Skinner.
6:16
This team has a lot more skill, and like I said many times in the offseason, would really benefit from having more NHL-level players instead of just a few stars.
Do I think they can really take down a division playoff spot?
That'll still be tough.  But they've put themselves in a great spot to compete all year.

Why do some teams place similarily injured players on IR right away while others wait or don't make the move at all?
Gavin Lee
6:17
Though there are unending reasons why an individual decision could be made, usually it's because the team either wants to recall someone right away or wait for a better opportunity (like following a minor league game).
6:18
Injured reserve can always be backdated to the last game the player suited up for, so waiting a few days to make a decision doesn't hurt you.
For a lot of injuries, it's not clear if the recovery period will be five days or nine days, so why immediately put him on a seven-day IR stint without taking a few to really figure it out.

Coyotes need some scoring help still, who would be a fit?
Gavin Lee
6:19
I think I've mentioned him in association with them before, but Jakob Silfverberg is a player I think is going to get a ton of attention.
Friedman mentioned him as a good fit for the Penguins recently, but I think he'd be a good fit in Arizona too.
6:20
We'll see if those two teams can get together on a deal--to be clear I've not heard any talk between them.
SOUTH SIDE
6:20
The news in Ottawa regarding the arena is bad for Melnyk or bad for the city of Ottawa and their chances of retaining this team long term?
Gavin Lee
6:21
Well those are not mutually exclusive really, if Melnyk's goal is to keep the team.
Honestly this news wasn't entirely surprising, but it's really not good for the team.
They need an arena move more than maybe anyone else in the league.
6:22
And this looked like their best opportunity. The fact that they're saying stuff like 'get their act together', doesn't instill much confidence that it's even a real possibility anymore.

6:23
Aside from Silfverberg, whom you just mentioned, who are some other ducks players that might be trade targets? And what assets would they seek in return?
Gavin Lee
6:23
Hard to see a ton of other players that the Ducks would be willing to give up, but are also worth much.
6:24
Aberg might play himself into a deadline deal, and if they wanted to move guys like Kase or Rakell they'd have 30 teams lined up.
But what is the plan in Anaheim? I'm sure they think they can compete still, or at least again next season.
So they're not going to send out their core, or their young guys.

6:25
Any chance of Nylander ending up on the ducks? Without giving up montour?
Gavin Lee
6:25
This is the only kind of trade that would make sense, getting a player who can already help.
Still, no fan base should be expecting Nylander for anything other than an elite player in return.
6:26
If it's not Montour, do you want to give up Lindholm for him? Rakell? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

6:26
Which team is going to see the most improvement from terminating their coach? St. Louis or Edmonton?
Gavin Lee
6:26
Improvement this season, Edmonton.
6:27
Hitch always gets a bump right away.
Still hate the way they've built that roster.
But if you watched the first game, and have followed Hitchcock's quotes, he certainly has a vision of how to best deploy it.
SOUTH SIDE
6:27
Should the Bruins be worried. No secondary scoring and now Bergeron down. D is banged up and goalies are coming back to earth
Gavin Lee
6:28
Should have been worried when McAvoy went down.
Yes, this is a very tough stretch for the Bruins.
Their young players haven't taken the steps forward they needed.
6:29
This was supposed to be one of the deepest forward groups in the NHL, if guys like Bjork, JFK, Donato, DeBrusk, Heinen, etc all came to play
