Just not sure it's particularly likely they'll beat the market for him, otherwise.

Read quickly over the list and there were a few surprises, but that’s how the off-season goes. Good list so far. (Though I wish my Cards got more the Holland)
Jeffrey Todd

Good thing for all of us that we dont actually get to decide anything, ha. We see the Cards being active on the trade market and also pushing hard after JDM. At times we were going to pick him to St. Louis, so we definitely think that's plausible.
2:59
Honestly I feel like pursuing Abreu would really make some sense there. Though I also don't think they should give up on Carpenter ... have never understood why people wring their hands over him.

Should the cubbies trade Russell for some bullpen or starting help?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Think they have to have an open mind on Russell, Baez, Happ, and Schwarber.

You only have the Nationals as favorites for one player in the top 50...explain.
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Not a lot of money to spend, perhaps, and not a lot of holes. As I sort of mentioned before, I could see them going huge and getting a big starter. But they don't have to do that. Could just plug in another setup guy and then spend a little on the bench (Lind or a replacement, maybe an infielder, maaaaybe an upgrade over Goodwin as 4th OF, maybe a bounceback starter type).
3:02
Not saying there isn't a possibility of more, but I -- as MLBTR's resident Nats attention-payer -- don't see them as a strong favorite for any big names.

Howie Kendrick has to find a starting job in free agency right?  If so where?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
I don't know that a contender is going to sign him to plug a major hole as an everyday guy. But some team with a lot of needs could do that -- the Giants, say. Or he could  take on a significant role as  a part-time guy, perhaps serving as a bat-first utility player -- and maybe he'd even end up playing nearly every day.

It seems top 50 only has the Dodgers getting 1 back of the rotation starter, do you see them being that inactive?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Minor would be a reliever.
3:05
But you'll notice they are mentioned alongside some big names. It's possible. They also may end up being more active in trade talks. Very tough team to peg.

Wade Davis to the Nationals seems most likely does it not?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Not really, in my estimation. They got good results from Doolittle.

Perhaps you guys could make a top 25 trade candidates prediction? Might be as fun as the 50 free agent list.
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Oh, sure, let me clear 40 hours of my week, thanks.
Ha, seriously, it's a good but daunting idea. I will consider it though!

Angels go with Alonso over moose?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Dont see them spending that big on Moustakas after getting Upton, personally.
They can shift Valbuena back over to third, also.
3:08
(Unless I missed something and he's like no longer capable of playing there. But I haven't heard such a thing.)

Is Addison Russel and Victor Caratini enough to get Chris Archer?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
I think the Rays can do better.
Mike

What do you you expexct  Hazen to do this offseason?  He's been umpressive in his first season.
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Not sure what you were hoping for. Seems like the DBacks performed pretty well, no? He was wise not to be overly rash with making changes.
3:10
Hard to complain about the midseason JDM acquisition, too.
Anyway, we dont have any top 50 guys going to ARZ. Reason? Payroll. Unless they step it up over past years -- and I've not heard an indication they will -- then there's just really no room given the arb raises they are paying.

There's clearly a ton of unknowns this winter. What are a few things you feel good about predicting?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Ian Kinsler will be traded.
Somewhere.
Sterling, VA

Chances Nats resign any of Albers, Lind and Howie?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Sterl!
3:12
Solid chance of both of the first two. Not so much on Howie.

Do the Angels have anything enticing enough to land 3B Franco of Philly??
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Former AGM Matt Klentak surely has a few favorites on the Angels' farm, right?
But I just feel like the Phils are going to keep riding things out with Franco.
And the Angels probably need a little more certainty.

How do you land on Tanaka to the Phillies of all places?
